The "Downtown Group", the first AA Group in the area, changed its name to the "Highland Club"(The Highland Club was incorporated on Tuesday, January 8, 1948) when the facility on Stamford was acquired.
The Highland Club was incorporated on Tuesday, January 8, 1948. Soon thereafter, the Crow family donated a home at 3220 Samford, which stood just south of what's now Shriners hospital. It was across the street from the motel.
The current building (at 1711 Tulane Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103) opened in 1956, you can see where the facility has been enlarged over the years by walking around the building.
The Dove is the Grace of God, and the Olive Branch is Peace. The Dove holding an Olive Branch is Peace by God’s Grace. The Three Doves holding the Olive Branches are the third principal. Three squares of royal blue, one for each legacy. These six parts create the shield that is our center. Behind the shield is the circle cut into four parts, two white and two checkered green. The white is for what is Pure, and the green is Growth, it is checkered because we are human. The gold banner on top of the shield is for 50 Years of Service to the Fellowship. The circles are the beginnings, and the endings linked together by Faith, Service, and Brotherhood. These principles are written in Latin in an effort to capture the truest meaning of the principles Fidem, Honestatum, Serbitum, and Fraternitum. All writings are written in blood red for it is the color of The Highland Club.
